Day 12: Shhhh… it is a secret

Welcome back to BizLaunchBlog.com! Thanks for following me on my quest to launch and develop an online business as a gift for my wife. Share your advice, comment on a post and tell your friends... Peace, JMichael

I am getting closer... I am evaluating a specific business right now.

I am getting closer... I am evaluating a specific business right now.

I think i have made this clear somewhere here on my blog, but for those who may have missed it, this whole launching-and-developing-a-new-online-business-as-a-gift-for-my-wife project is a big SECRET.  That’s right.  My wife does not know I am doing this and that is all part of my plan.  You see, I want to get this launched and profitable to the point it is bringing in enough moola that she can resign from her current job and work it from home.

That being said, I have found it ever more challenging to keep things secret.  It is hard to steal away the time I need to research the business opportunities out there, not to mention updating the ol’ blog to keep my faithful readers in the know.

But I will press on, finding the time, moment-by-moment, to make this project a reality.

Now for an update: I have had the opportunity to exchange several emails with someone about a potential business. I cannot, or should I say will not, give you all the details as of yet, but it is travel-related and it is a network marketing company.  I am a bit surprised at myself regarding that last point but I am warming up to that possibility.  I will keep you all updated as to my progress and, if I take the plunge and move in that direction, I will make the big reveal!

I wanted to review my WHAT list as a way to work through a personal analysis of this business I am considering and thought it would be a good idea to let you join me.  (If you haven’t read my WHAT? post, click here and check it out.  This will make a lot more sense if you read that first.)  So here is what I concluded…

How the business I am currently considering aligns with my WHAT List:

  • Ethical and Honest: From all appearances this company seems to be ‘above the board’ and fully legit.  I am continuing to vet this opportunity but I have had some great email conversations with someone who is currently involved with the company.  I have spent some time researching the company and so far everything not only ‘checks out’ but seems to be quite solid and professional.
  • Simple: This business seems to be fairly simple and straightforward.  There does not seem to be a huge learning curve and development of the business appears to be uncomplicated yet not a total bore.
  • Training and Support: From my initial interactions with this company this is one of my favorite pluses.  The support seems to be outstanding and there is a real team atmosphere.  In fact, the element that really captured my attention initially with this company was their focus on teamwork.  I have run across many other opportunities which are just pumping up some idea of earning outrageous money on your own, without really doing anything.  this company has a strong team approach and encourages cooperation and mutual development.
  • Efficient: This business appears to be able to be worked in a way that will really allow me to leverage my time as it launches and develops.  I believe from my assessment that I will be able to develop some marketing and promotion systems to be quite efficient.
  • Flexible: As with most online businesses, this one is very flexible.  Although it will need to be worked on consistently (what real business doesn’t?), it can be worked on at any time, day or night.
  • Low Startup Costs: This potential business scores well here too.  Startup costs look to be under $500 over the first year with initial out-of-pocket at less than $100.  If I can hone my low-cost online marketing skills (any advice is most welcomed) I should be able to keep all of this at a minimum.
  • Quickly into Profit: Quick reminder on this one: I am NOT looking for a get-rich-quick business. From what I have seen and heard directly from others, I believe that this business has the potential for relatively quick profits so I can reach my initial goal of giving the business to my wife as a gift – allowing her to stop working outside the home – in the not-too-distant future. This business appears to be easily expanded and developed.  This is another exciting discovery I unearthed as I have been examining this potential business.
  • Passive Income: Again, like many online businesses, this one can generate passive income.  I am very excited that this business offers not simply one-time passive income but the ability to generate long-term residual income as well.
  • Fun and Interesting: High scores here as well!  This company looks like a lot of fun and, being in the travel industry, I think it is quite interesting and has some bonus benefits.
  • Will my wife enjoy it? Yes, I believe my wife would really enjoy this business and it seems to fit in well with our family-focused lifestyle.

So far, things are looking good.  I will be talking directly to some other people involved with this company and continue to make a determination soon, so stay tuned :)

Let me know your thoughts by commenting below.  Also, I am kind of curious if anyone can guess the company I am considering? There’s a challenge for you!

This is so romantic! Can I cover it on my blog GeekGirlfriends or will that blow the secret?
